What happen to the stiff upper lip? I grew up in a society where hugging, kissing and displays of emotion were strictly rationed. In old family photos, we all stood separately. Dad with arms crossed and grim expression. Mum smiling with elegance. Appearance was all.
Today, every opposite sex gets a hug and kiss after one or two meetings. Germs are a having field days! No wonder we tend to get colds and cough quite regularly now-a-days.

There is an old saying, in heaven, the police are British, the chefs are French, the mechanics are German, the lovers are Italian, and everything is organized by the Swiss.
In hell, the police are German, the chefs are British, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss, and everything is organized by the Italians.

Subject: An evening in the West End
"An evening in the West End" - that was the theme of the show. I arrived in London just in time to see my two granddaughters take part in it. What a great musical extravaganza! Seeing them dancing and synchronizing along with their classmates and music was just amazing. My girls (13 and 11 years) have grown up and seeing them perform confidently on the stage being watched by hundreds in the audience, made me proud of them.
The show was organized by a group of schools and choreographed by Alex Turner, who has worked with many well known celebrities including Jamelia, Michael Jackson, Ronan Keating, Cliff Richard, The Cure and Eartha Kit. The girls had the best teachers available to them and therefore performed extremely well.
The youngest has also recorded at the Abbey Road Studio, well known for Beatles recordings and the video is soon to be released on the YouTube.
Good to be around and to see them grow up!

Subject: Why do some women scratch the floor and walk?
Many a times while I am waiting for my spouse to shop at a mall, I sit down and observe other shoppers walking by. It is amazing to see how many Asian women scratch the floor while walking. Scratch, scratch, scratch!
Are they walking lazily? Are they sloppy? Are they revealing their 'I do not care' type character? Are their shoes or slippers loose?
Whatever the case, it sure is irritating and definitely not ladylike and graceful.

Subject: Dressing up!
Mrs. D: Are you sure I look great in this dress?
Mr. D: Of course! You look great and now let's go.
Mrs. D: I don't know. Is it dressy enough?
Mr. D: Very dressy. You look fabulous.
Mrs. D: You always say that. It looks awful. I am going to change.
Mr. D: Ok, it looks awful. Go change.
Mrs. D: What?? You are soooo mean!!
Mr. D: I hate my life.
Surely, many husbands have gone through such an experiences when wives test their ability to choose. Women dress up not only to please themselves but everyone around them. They love to hear the magic words from friends and strangers- "you look fabulous today". The same words coming out of their spouse is worthless and often taken for granted.

Subject: Touch me, pay me!
Men! When visiting Singapore, beware of young con girls who will falsely accuse you of touching their bottoms in a night-club/bar/disco and then demand an immediate pay-out or face her hollering and go to court.
Recently many such cases have surfaced when men, who without a witness and not actually touching them just pay up to avoid public or family scrutiny.

Subject: Appreciation
Whenever I travel away from my spouse, I receive lots of Blackberry messages from her showing 'kisses', 'hugs' etc. emoticons. Recently I enquired, "How come you don't hug and kiss me a lot when I am present with you?" Am I taken for granted? Why are all lovable emotions shown only when I am away? Absence makes the heart grow fonder - I guess!
There are times, we praise or show our love for a person only after his/her passing away. Thoughts come into our minds hoping that we should have done this or that while he/she was alive. Too late isn't it? The best thing would be to really take life seriously day by day and show our true appreciation to our relatives/friends in person while they are alive. Never know when he/she is gone! Life is short and its best not to regret later.

Subject: Children
Have you noticed today's children act and think they are smarter than their parents or elders?
Try advising a child, from your past experience or encounters, and he/she will think you are ancient and not progressing along with the modern time and thinking. They will ignore the fact that we had gone through various problems in life and grown up learning from our elders? Shouldn't we therefore be considered the best instant available advisors?
Being brought up in a conservative society, we were always cautious on every step we took otherwise face the wrath of our parents. Today's children are brought up in an open society which gives them more freedom and authority. Their young minds are vulnerable and they tend to believe in anything and also trust questionable matters without giving it a second thought.
As humans we all make mistakes in life and I believe children of today would benefit considerably if they would simply consult the elders for advice. Chances are they could probably solve most of their problems before they get worse.
Eventually, in time to come, they will only realize the facts when they have to deal with their own children.

Subject: Tiger
It is a pity that Tiger Woods is being bashed so much by the press - especially by the female critics?
In all fairness, one should give him a benefit of doubt and wonder why he strayed away from his wife. Being popular, rich and a professional sportsman there may have been times when he must be coming home exhausted to his wife and looking for support, affinity and quality time. It is possible she, being busy and occupied with kids, totally ignored him! Probably putting it off with "I have a headache and leave me alone and I have to tend to the kids". After all she was originally an au pair and must be taking her chores seriously. She may have also nagged him for being late and not paying full attention to his family. Being ignored, he must have got annoyed and walked out many times. He is after all human and to satisfy his needs, he could easily find a companion or a fan whenever he wanted to. Someone to listen to him and give him company. Perhaps that is why he decided to follow the Nike slogan, "Just do it" too literally.
It takes two to tango, so his wife too has to be blamed for his actions and should clean up her act also.

Subject: Bread
Amazing how natural human behavior plays a part in a family!
When I was young, my mother used to always feed me slices of bread after removing the side crust. It was a known fact that the crust was always kept aside, so that it could be fed to the cows every weekend or used as bread crumbs for making snacks. Once married, wife Lavina was always annoyed when I refused to eat the bread with the crust.
Fast forward 39 years later one Sunday, Lavina and I took our grandchildren (4 and 2 years old) for a Star Ferry ride to Kowloon. Always travelling by cars, this was a thrilling experience for them. Being lunch time, we dropped into Dan Ryan's restaurant. As the bread was passed around, Lavina picked up a slice, spread jam onto it and handed it to my grandson. He pushed it aside with a stern voice, "Dadima (Grandma)! - I do not want the side crust - please remove it". Lavina looked at me shockingly and I smiled back. I knew what she was thinking! Grandson is now behaving like Grandfather! Well, that is the only way, I would eat my bread - without the crust. My grandson had never seen me eat that way and neither had I ever told him about it. How did that happen? Coincidence? Genes? Since we are both born under the same Aries sign, has the zodiac star got something to do with that?
Some thing to think about! Do you have a similar type of incident? Do send it in and share with us.
