A London Reunion: When a brother meets his four sisters

by C. D.

In the heart of London, where history and modern charm dance together, a family reunion recently unfolded that was as timeless as the city itself. A brother and his four sisters came together for a week of reconnection, laughter, and shared memories—turning a bustling metropolis into a cosy haven of love.

Brother #5 (DXB), the youngest and recently first time Grandpa, flew down from Dubai with his wife. Known for his joyful nature and thoughtful heart, he was greeted with warm embraces and playful teasing.

Sister #1 (BLR) flew down from Bengaluru (India) with a heart full of love and wisdom that only an older sibling can offer.

Sister #2 (HKG) flew down from Hong Kong with her husband (me), braving the long flight journey.

Sister #3 (SJU) flew down from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with her energetic daughter (SJU-JR), instantly filling the house with youthful energy and readiness to party.

Sister #4 (PNQ), the youngest, flew down from Pune (India) and was ever ready to be pampered.

There were feasts almost every day: Chinese, Italian, Lebanese, Singaporean, and Indian cuisines. Think…Char Siu, aromatic duck, biryani, hummus, pub grubs, and the list went on and on. Wines and alcohol were always part of the meals, whereby the siblings toasted and shared the meals between bursts of laughter.

Dining or drinking together always turned into storytelling hours. Old tales resurfaced—some hilarious, some touching. The siblings laughed until they cried, especially at unforgettable incidents from their childhood.

Mrs DXB took the initiative to plan a local tour on a London Tourist hop-on and hop-off bus one day. This offered the siblings a flexible way to see major landmarks from an open-top double-decker bus, allowing them to get on and off at designated stops to explore sites at their own pace.

Since the weather was pleasant and bearable, there were occasional walks in the famous Regent’s and Hyde Parks which have vast lawns, pathways, rose bushes, oak trees, ducks, swans, and squirrels.

In a world that can feel like it’s zooming by, those special moments of connection were truly precious. A long-awaited family reunion happily brought a brother and his four sisters together for a week, filled with laughter, memories, and stronger bonds.

As the final evening came to a close, hugs lingered, and promises were made to try to get together again—perhaps the next time in their childhood home in Hong Kong. But for now, London had given them a week they’d never forget.

Even though the siblings went back to their own lives, the reunion left them feeling more connected than ever—and a group chat buzzing with memories and hopefully ideas for their next get-together.

In conclusion, I feel distance might stretch across continents, but love will always finds its way back to each other.

If you pray for rain long enough, it eventually does fall. If you pray for floodwaters to abate, they eventually do. The same happens in the absence of prayers. -Steve Allen, television host, musician, actor, comedian, and writer (26 Dec 1921-2000)
